As I told my readers previously, I really wanted to spotlight stay at moms who also have found a way pursue a part time career they love. I want you to hear their insight straight from them. This is a forum to say what you want to say, which I love. So I will be printing their thoughts and advice with no edits.
Starting off my moms that inspire series I’m chatting today with Angie Jones. Angie is many things. Wife. Mom of 4 children. Yellow status presenter of Younique. The voice behind Fresh Look by Angie.com, where she presents awesome videos and live chats showing makeup how to’s among other things. When you watch her step by step videos you really feel that you too could follow the steps very easily! She does each video or chat right from her home, sometimes joined by a child or two. She is after all a mom first!
Angie and I actually met in 4th grade when we were 9 years old, so basically I have known her more years than either of us care to have added up. While a lot has changed over these years one thing that has not is her friendliness and approachability. She is the kind of person who I believe would be happy to talk to anyone anywhere. She is awesome and I’m asking her today to give some insight on being a stay at home mom while following her passion for representing this line of products.
Tell me about your career/business:
“I share wonderful makeup all online from my cell phone, where I inspire women to feel more confident in their own skin through makeup tips and tricks. I believe that women feel more beautiful, will feel more confident and sometimes a bit of makeup can go a long way with building confidence.”
How many children do you have and their ages?
“I have 4 beautiful children. My oldest Jaxon is 9 1/2 years old, Asher is 7 years old, Tayte is 5 years old and Jules is 2 years old.”
How long have you been a stay at home mom?
“I have been a stay at mom about 8 years.”
What made you decide to get started and how long did you think about it before you did so?
“I decided to get started because I felt like I needed something for me. With four kiddos and an amazing husband I felt like I lost myself. I love makeup and beauty products and when this came up I thought “I can do this!” After talking about it with my husband and thinking about it for probably a month I decided to go for it!”
Why are you passionate about it?
“I enjoy makeup and products and hopefully inspiring women to feel more confident with their makeup application as well as building their inner confidence too.”
Do you have any tips or advice for a fellow mom getting started?
“My advice for a fellow mom is to find what interests you and go for it! You can always try and if it doesn’t work out you gave it your best! There will always be naysayers but you have to focus on what’s best for you and your family and what works with the amount of time you have to give to your business.”
What challenges have you faced along the way?
“The challenges will have faced are negative feedback about selling online thru Facebook. I also put a lot of pressure on myself and have guilt if I don’t make my personal goals each month for my business. I think as a mom I have all kinds of guilt but overcoming those negative thoughts and pressing on for me and my family is all that matters.”
What have you learned about yourself or your business along the way?
“I love and enjoy what I do and am good at sharing makeup. I have learned that I have to be realistic with my time for my makeup business, my kids and my husband.”
What are some benefits of what you do?
“I have met some amazing women thru my makeup business. I can do this business in the nooks and crannies of my day all thru my cell phone. I am able to make money and be home with my kiddos so I don’t feel like I’m missing out from being away from them. I’m able to contribute something to our family. I didn’t have to invest a ton of money to start my own business. Best of all it works for me!”
What are your goals as you continue?
” I would love to grow a team of fabulous women who will join me on this journey!”
Why part time instead of full time? Why is it right for your family?
“I do this part time because it works for my family. I can truly do this anywhere that I have WiFi. It’s the best of both worlds because I can make money from anywhere plus be at home with my kiddos! I don’t have to worry about calling into work if someone is sick and I need to stay at home with them or if I have to run and pick someone up from school or sports. I don’t have to worry about letting my boss know or worry about my job. My boss is me!”
What is your favorite thing about being a stay at home mom?
” I love being at home with my kids, especially when they get home from school and we are able to chat about their day! I love that they know I’m going to be home when they get there.”
What would you want your children to know about why mommy does what she does?
“I would want my children to know that mommy did this for her and with doing something that makes mommy happy it makes mommy a better mommy for them. I want them to always choose what makes them happy too and they can do whatever their heart desires, even if it’s sharing makeup online.”
Best memory of a successful moment doing what you do:
“Chatting with women I have shared tips and tricks with and they are appreciative and have enjoyed what I do. It makes what I do so much better.”
I hope you enjoyed reading what Angie had to say-I know I did! Huge thank you Angie for our chat! You can find her on her FreshLookbyAngie Facebook page to see her videos and live chats or message her there about any products or tutorials.
As always I welcome your comments and shares. I hope you’ll continue to follow this series in addition to my other content! As a new follower of my own dream and full time mom I find so much inspiration from other women following their passions too! Until the next time friends! Janet
